Did you know that there are more cows in Britain than there are people in Birmingham, Liverpool and Manchester put together?

Is lameness in cows increasing in the UK?

No. As a result of measures introduced by British dairy farmers, data suggests that the incidence of lameness in cattle has decreased in recent years.

Practices that have been introduced include the renewal and upgrading of the tracks and surfaces on which cows stand and walk, and the replacement of smaller, outdated cubicles with larger stalls or yards. Dairy farmers are also focusing on preventative care with, for example, greater use of foot trimmers, footbaths and regular veterinary involvement.
