Which is the most common dairy cow breed in Britain?

Ask almost anyone draw a dairy cow and the chances are they would paint it black and white.

The Holstein-Friesian breed - which is black and white - is the most common and represents nearly 90% of the UK dairy herd. Other breeds that can be seen include the Ayrshire, Jersey and Guernsey.

Breeding expert Marco Winters says: "We have a lot of different systems in this country and we need breeds to suit those systems. In Scotland you may see a different animal to those in Cornwall, for example."
